Marine Air Control Squadron 4 (MACS-4) is a United States Marine Corps aviation command and control squadron that provides aerial surveillance, Ground-controlled interception, and air traffic control for the III Marine Expeditionary Force. Originally formed in World War II, the squadron’s most notable combat operations occurred during the Vietnam War when it was the first unit to ever use the Marine Tactical Data System. They are currently based at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma and fall under the command of Marine Air Control Group 18 and the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing.
It appears as Marine Lee Harvey Oswald joined something like Marine Air Control Squadron 4 to study inbound aircraft as an early warning system and dispacth by air traffic control response fighter jets.
From 1944 to 1947 HQ in Florida.
Deactivated 1947.
Reactivated cold war 1951 to 1963 Santa Anna California (Edwards Air Force Base associated?)
From 1959 to 1963 moving around deployments in Japan and Asia Loas.
I think this is tied to my father’s reconsoance flying and dispatch. Note in Jet Pilot the ground crews officer and radar operators in radio communication with the f-86 recon fighers.
James Paul Donean spoke of flying recon over Koria like from Atsugi Naval Air Base
Naval Air Facility Atsugi (厚木海軍飛行場, Atsugi Kaigun-hikōjō) (IATA: NJA, ICAO: RJTA) is a joint Japan-US naval air base located in the cities of Yamato and Ayase in Kanagawa, Japan. It is the largest United States Navy (USN) air base in the Pacific Ocean and once housed the squadrons of Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5), which deploys with the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan.
During 2017 and 2018 the fixed-wing aircraft of CVW-5 relocated to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni in western Japan.
CVW-5 shares the base with the Headquarters Fleet Air Force and Fleet Air Wing 4 of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). NAF Atsugi is also home to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 51 (HSM-51), which provides detachments of MH-60R helicopters to forward deployed U.S. Navy guided missile cruisers, guided missile destroyers and frigates homeported at the nearby Yokosuka Naval Base. Service members stationed at Atsugi also work in conjunction with the former Kamiseya Naval Radio Receiving Facility.
Despite its name, the base is 4 nautical miles (7.4 km; 4.6 mi) east northeast[1] from the city of Atsugi, and is not adjacent to the city.
Though my father shifted From US Army Air Corps into the USAF as it became a seperate service from the Army it flew out of a Naval base run by the navy,, and the Marine operating the radar my father was flying recon for was a navy base and Lee Harvey OSwald seemed to be the operator.
