On Black Monday, October 28, 1929, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined nearly 13 percent. Federal Reserve leaders differed on how to respond to the event and support the financial system.
My father told me that his father after having been an accountant was forced to work janitorial only at a Hershey factory blue collar, and and I remember my father crying when he heard his father Edward fell to the floor dead with heart attack.
His 1942 or so enlistment into the US Military at the outbreak of the war lists a Railroad clerk type proffession and my father told me just under 18 he was on a ladder painting for income his Irish mother could not get a job in Boston.
Perhaps he was paining rairload cars?
He had said his later childhood was the wrong side of the tracks.
He may have been close to the Kennedys in Dorchester, better area, but forced to Quincy and elsewhere following the 1929 crash.
The Kennedys kept track of their friend and plumb job came up for OCS getting flight training flying the P-51 moving him after the war back into white collar life, not exactly office, but field professional.
